We now live in an era where depression, stress, anxiety are becoming normal in the sense that more and more people have experienced it. It is normal. That is why it’s important to seek help and to prevent it from happening at all in the first place. That is why mindfulness has become a buzzword recently. And we think it’s going to stick for the foreseeable future.
What is Reiki?
One way to reduce stress and get relaxed is through energy healing. There are many forms, but this time the spotlight is on Reiki.
Originated from Japan, Reiki literally means ‘universal life energy’. Reiki was introduced to the west by Mrs. Hawayo Takata back in 1937. But it was developed back in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui.
How does it works?
Reiki heals the body by redistributing the energy flow in our body. It focuses on breaking down the negative energy in our body by raising the vibratory level of the energy field in and around our physical body. As a result, reiki clears and heals the energy pathways. This healing allows the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
More recently there have been scientific studies to understand more how energy healing works and is it really healing our body. Truth be told, one study reveals that reiki does work. In 2013 one study found that 10 minutes of energy healing was as effective as physical therapy in improving the range of motion in people with mobility problems. UCLA even has en electromyography (EMG) lab that studies electrical activity in the body.
Benefits of Reiki
- Stress reduction

- Increase mobility in joints
- Heals infection and inflammation
- Improves indices of metabolic syndrome
- Treats symptoms associated with cancer

For all the benefits of reiki and energy healing there are many skeptics. The debate is still on. But we think it’s worth a try! Most people that tried it also only have only good words about this method of energy healing.
